Flower cake and matching cupcakes

19 Dec

My beautiful baby girl just turned two! As most women do, this little lady LOVES chocolate.  If you’ve ever wondered what the daughter of a pastry chef gets for a birthday cake, here it is.  I like to keep things pretty simple.  The cake on the pedestal was chocolate cake layered with Swiss chocolate butter cream and the cupcakes were filled with peppermint cream (her birthday is in December after all).  Perfect for my little two-year-old 🙂

A Magical 8th Birthday

3 Dec

This weekend I was able to create a very fun cake for a Harry Potter- lovin’ eight-year-old. I had a lot of fun researching and creating this beauty and the birthday girl absolutely loved it!

The bottom two tiers were chocolate cake filled with whipped caramel ganache frosting (soo rich) and the top was chocolate filled with white chocolate Swiss buttercream.

Cupcake Party and a Fashionista Cake

30 Sep

A lady picked up my business card from a party I made cupcakes for and contacted me.  Her daughter was turning 17, she loves to bake and it is her dream to open a cupcake shop. I was commissioned to create a cupcake decorating party for her and five closest friends plus make a fun birthday cake.

Caitlin (the now 17-year-old) is into all things girly.  Her favorite color is pink and she loves shoes and purses. I’ve never had the opportunity to make something like this (I’m not exactly the most “girly” girl), so I had a great time looking at ideas and planning out the cake. It was a pretty involved process. I had to start the shoe a week in advance to give it enough time to dry, and it took several more days to slowly add the different parts. The flowers and pearls were formed a few days in advance and I made the purse out of Rice Crispy treats and covered it in fondant the night before.

It was had a lot of fun putting the cake together and I was so happy with the way it turned out. My mom is into all sorts of accessories and this is really a cake that she could be proud of 🙂

A side view of the cake and the cute high heel.

For the cupcake class, I made each “student” a kit that coordinated with the cake.

Party and cupcake fun.

Cupcake Craze

8 Jun

It seems like everyone has had a craving for cupcakes lately! These last two treats were absolutely scrumptious.  The lemon cupcake was filled with fresh lemon curd (with lemons from my own tree- doesn’t get any more local than that) and the chocolate cupcake a sinfully rich caramel. Cupcakes are just the perfect little treat to customize and create.  They’re such a great avenue to try out something new. What’s your favorite cupcake flavor?

Chocolate Valentine’s

14 Feb

Valentines Day is all about chocolate right? I needed a delicious excuse to use the cute heart-shaped cupcake molds my Mom gave me a couple years ago.  These little cupcakes were made from my favorite rich chocolate cake, filled with a super gooey ganache an topped with Swiss chocolate buttercream.

I hope you have had a wonderful v-day and found lots of good excuses to eat chocolate 🙂
